Spring Clean Your Mouth! How to stop infection before it stops you.

03/26/2010

Is your mouth a breeding ground for bacteria? According to doctors, gum disease has been linked to more than bad breath: it is often the first symptom of heart disease and premature birth. You may be waiting for your next dental check-up, or you may even be overdue, like many who have been prioritising bills and putting it off due to the recession.

Our mouth is the first place bacteria can enter the body, and it is filled with billions of harmful bacteria every second. Fortunately a healthy mouth with healthy gums is teeming with healthy enzymes that can kill these bacteria before they make their way into your bloodstream.

Mary McGuire-Wien, author of the 7-day Total Cleanse, believes it is a balance game.
For the enzymes to outnumber the bacteria, the key is to practice great oral hygiene daily, and do some deeper cleaning at times when things are shifting around and changing the balance of your body – like spring. Mary’s brilliant plan: Increase enzymes, and decrease bacteria –then your healthy mouth will stop disease in its tracks before it can make its way deeper into your cells. Her years of experience in juicing, cleansing and healing often result in wonderful solutions to everyday peoples problems.

She says that besides the usual routine of brushing and flossing regularly we are also able to take great care of our bodies especially our teeth and gums with a few simple lifestyle tips.

1. Have a cleanse day where you give your mouth and gums a rest from having to wrestle with sugar and chemicals and maybe even chewing! Try a sugar free, liquid juice and smoothie day.

2. Make a dry tooth powder solution of ¼ cup baking soda and ¼ cup sea salt

3. Wet a soft toothbrush with filtered water, then dip it into the tooth powder solution until brush is fully coated.

4. Brush the insides of your cheeks, roof of mouth, gently and fully around gums on tongue side and cheek side of all teeth.

5. Rinse toothbrush repeatedly with fresh water, and dip again each time into the tooth powder solution. Continue until you sense all the mucus has been gently removed.

6. Floss your teeth

7. Mix 1 T of the tooth powder solution into a small glass of comfortably hot water and gargle until back of throat and teeth are cleared of any lingering debris.

This tooth powder solution will create a perfectly alkaline mouth, the key that makes your mouth an inhospitable environment for bacteria. So say goodbye to bad breath and gum disease and say hello to dental health.

Getting rid of bacteria and spring-cleaning your kisser at the same time might be just the thing to try this spring. Indulge yourself in a little oral pampering and not only will you feel better, but your teeth will be whiter too, which means just another excuse to smile.
