Spring Allergies, Stress and Fatigue
03/21/2010
With the current economic climate causing unforeseen levels of stress, as well as the early coming of spring with its pollen and allergies, doctors are urging people to take care of themselves. According to the American Medical Association, stress may be the leading cause of more than 75% of sickness today and the World Health Organization says that stress is America’s #1 Health Problem. Mary McGuire-Wien, author of The 7 Day Total Cleanse has taken the traditional spring tonic a step further to boost your immune system, perk up your cells and get rid of fatigue.
There are several versions of Spring Tonic Elixirs, depending on what is growing nearby, and it’s advisable to make them delicious and mysterious by balancing the bitter with the sweet.
“The first greens to sprout out of the earth after a long cold winter are bitter greens, with detoxifying power to cleanse our cells of winters sleepy slower days, and renew us with the bursting green energy of spring.” says Mary. For informaiont about juice cleansing visit www.americanyogini.com.
A Spring Tonic is the perfect way to start cleansing away the extra pounds that creep on due to comfort eating when we’re stressed or fending off the cold winter weather. In the past a forage through the brush and forest for signs of green, sap rising in twigs, the first signs of growth, would yield the makings of “spring tonic”. Some typical ingredients were Spicwood twigs, violet leaves, burdock roots, dandelion greens, and other wild bitter greens. Indeed the first greens to grow are bitter to taste, but they are also extremely rich in nutrients.
Violet greens, for example contain far more Vitamin C than oranges. It is the life force energy that gives them their tonifying quality, not the bitter taste.
Try this recipe at home: Use apples to play in the friendliest way with the bitterness of dandelion. Not only is it absolutely delicious, but will give you an immediate energy boost.
