How much water should we drink to stay cool, stay young & stay hydrated when we are cleansing and detoxing? How much juice?
In the summer, A LOT of water, and only a little juice is the formula. If you had as little as two – 16 ounce bottles of juices and three – 24 ounce bottles of water, you will be enjoying rapid weight loss, and be feeling healthy and refreshed.
“Hot fun summer in the city, back of the neck getting dirty and gritty.” Is that old song in your head these days? That’s because you’re sweating. We can lose up to a cup of water an hour through the process of sweating. If you’re an athlete or a hot yoga junkie, triple that! When water is not flowing back into the sweating summer body, you can feel like a hose with a kink in it. Symptoms of dehydration can include leg cramps, poor memory, or a fatigued, sluggish feeling. Thirsty yet? Stay away from those tempting coffee coolers: for every ounce you drink you’ll lose two!
A better way to help your body stay calm and cool is to hydrate with water. Water is a moving river of life; be it the Hudson River or our physical bodies. As embryos we are 95% water and by the time we are 70 many of us have a body composition of less than 60% water. Anyone composed of less than 50% water is either comatose or deceased. So, want to stay young? Stay Hydrated! Drink enough water for your cells to move you along like a great river!
Three Ways to Hydrate:
* Drink: Keep a bottle half filled with water in your freezer, then on your way out the door, fill it the rest of the way up with fresh water. As the icy water melts, the liquid water stays cool.
* Eat: The freshest in season summer foods can provide hydration too. Watermelons, cucumbers and fresh garden tomatoes are full of body drenching hydration!
* Play: Go to the beach and frolic in the waves! Sea water is full of minerals that the skin can absorb.
LOOK WHAT WE FOUND!
The local Target here has 24 ounce water bottles with these great pop up straws. WHY WE LOVE THEM: we pack them full of ice cubes we make from our own water infusions (see recipe), then top them off with filtered water and cap them tightly. As the ice cubes melt they are perfectly drinkable and keep the water so lovely and cool! The other reason is that we know if we fill and drink from this bottle 3 times, we are sure to be drinking a sufficient amount of water. We have them here at our American Yogini hohm juice cleanse retreat to make sure all of our juice fasting and yoga retreat guests stay hydrated in style! So easy to tote to the beach too.
