EFT is a form of energy medicine now offered at our American Yogini hohm Boutique Retreats. The letters are an acronym for Emotional Freedom Techniques. EFT therapy aims to remove the emotional pain and mental stress linked to chronic illness, like cancer. Practiced correctly, it can be a powerful tool in cancer treatment and recovery.

In and of itself, EFT is not a cure for cancer. And while energy medicine is a form of alternative medicine, it is not meant to replace standard medical treatments. Rather, it is a complementary technique that doctors and patients can integrate with chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments.

In fact, many practitioners integrate EFT with other holistic practices, too. Healing touch, intuitive massage, and other energy therapies work well combined with EFT tapping. All energy healing involves creating or restoring energy flow in and around the body, through channels that serve as gateways to universal life energy.

When energy flow is blocked or out-of-balance, there exists the possibility of illness or disease. There is some belief that cancer stems, at least in part, from internal stresses. EFT and similar therapies restore the flow of spiritual energy to encourage balance and natural healing.

EFT is easy to learn, and cancer patients can perform the therapy on themselves. To learn EFT, a practitioner guides a cancer patient to tap on certain energy points on the face and body — the same energy points that Chinese acupuncture addresses. EFT is sometimes considered “emotional acupuncture” without the needles.

As patients engage in tapping while focusing on specific problems while repeating specific phrases, their efforts trigger stress or painful thoughts and feelings. This is a good thing, because it allows the patients to release their negative emotions. This clears energy blockages and restores balance, which eases the pain of cancer and promotes self-healing.

EFT has no scientific evidence to back it up, but the anecdotal evidence is abundant and growing. According to some statistics, nearly 99 percent of patients who use EFT therapy achieve lasting results. And improvement typically occurs within three or four therapy sessions.

This is encouraging news for cancer patients everywhere — from the woman with a difficult breast cancer diagnosis, to the man with rare mesothelioma, and everyone in between. Cancer symptoms and treatments are devastating as they are, with physical, emotional, and spiritual implications. As internal stress is healed through energy therapy, patients usually see a significant reduction in treatment side effects and improvement in their physical well-being.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, a pioneer of new ways of thinking about medicine, described energy healing as “the next big frontier in medicine.” While conventional treatments are highly effective for fighting cancer, people are now beginning to realize how energy affects physical healing and well-being. As a result, many cancer doctors and patients now use energy therapy in treatment and recovery plans.

By getting at the root of cancer, EFT heals from the inside out. By addressing issues of the mind, body, and spirit, energy therapies promote whole health. Not only does they reduce pain, stress, and cancer side effects, but they improve life and encourage inner peace. And that is the best healing of all.

“Melanie Bowen is an advocate for natural health and holistic therapies for cancer patients. You will often find her highlighting the great benefits of different nutritional, emotional, and physical treatments on those with illness in her efforts to spread awareness\”

Don’t “Fall” Into a rut…. Eat for Energy by Ciara Marino for American Yogini

Although many people love the warmth of the summer, we also invite the cool weather of the fall and all that it has to offer. I know that as fall starts to approach I look forward to apple and pumpkin picking, hay rides, fresh apple cider, walks in the cool fresh air with my beautiful dog, and cooking and baking with the fresh fall crops.

As we enter fall not only does the weather start to cool but the days begin to shorten. The shorter days with few hours of sunlight sometimes makes it difficult to keep that constant energy we just had a few months back in the summer. Now after leaving work at 5 we want to go home and curl up on the couch instead of going for a nice walk, going to the gym or out with friends and family. Many people turn to an especially large quantity of caffeine, red bull or any other energy drink to keep them sharp throughout their day.

What if I told you that you don’t need that third cup of coffee in the morning or that red bull in the afternoon to keep you energized? I know it sounds impossible, however with a little bit of education you can be one of those people bright-eyed and bushy-tailed without even a sip of caffeine in the morning! It sounds just so perfect there must be a catch, right?? Wrong! There have been multiple studies proving that a whole foods plant-based diet increases energy without even trying. This diet is rich in whole grains (including rice, quinoa, millet, barley, amaranth etc.), vegetables, and beans. So next time you feel like your battery is running low, take a step back and start to feed your body and mind food that will energize and brighten up your day.
